down on painted aluminum,
puckering rings on faux mahogany particle board,
reflecting darker rings,
pale and moon burnt,
while the energy saving fluorescent bulb,
swinging from the bare fixture,
slaps writhing shadows across faded wallpaper,
in the pregnant 60 cycle silence.
