Heavy boots pacing groves in the cheap linoleum
metronome click of the plastic wall clock
slow sizzle of cooking grass.

We hide behind our screens
portable devices at the ready
echo chamber security
safe in our delusion.

And outside the world waits
eyes hungry
breath baited
stomach rumbling
hands a tremble

for the dropping of the other shoe

Goodbyes

Been a strange couple of years.

Today I say goodbye to my sister and her family, as they head half way around the world for an extended stint in another country (one that promises to take years, assuming the world doesn't dive into war between now and then)

Been a strange couple of years.

Hope we're all still alive to see each other in a couple more.
