Rants and Poetry of a Tired and Angry Man.

Just what the title says, don't look for anything too profound or earthshaking.

Staph, Scarring, and Infarctions

So the latest is that he has some sort of Staph infection (They're currently testing for MRSA, along with a number of other nasty's)

He's been sedated with a breathing and feeding tube for the better part of a day, though they did revive him for a couple of hours to make sure his lungs were still working.

Temperature is still high, but not in the 104-106 range that it was yesterday.

They found scarring in the lungs that could be related.

And they think he had at least one heart attack since his surgery.

So we're taking it day by day and trying to make sure my mom eats, sleeps, and doesn't run herself to death trying to take care of everything.

I hate feeling powerless.

I've always hated it.

ICU

It's a strange feeling seeing the strongest man you've ever known strapped to a gurney and being loaded out of his home by a bunch of well meaning strangers.

Stranger to try to explain that the man on the table, twitching and slurring his speech and answering simple questions with complete non-sequitors actually does have a genius IQ, speaks 3 languages, and taught you more than every professor you've ever known combined.

I don't recall the last time I felt this tired.

My mom has it even worse, as I guess he started deteriorating last night some time and she'd been up with him for almost an entire day before she called me at work this afternoon to come help.

But at least the local doctors seem to be taking it seriously.

They've moved him three times now.
ER, to Trauma, To ICU, to another ICU suite.
Still intubated.
Still has a half dozen IV's in him.

It's a strange feeling seeing the strongest man you've ever known laying motionless on a table with tubes and machines wired into his body...

And knowing that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
